Senior Citizens Pamper Day: Wynberg Park

On Sunday 16 March Mustadafin launched its first in a series of three Seniors Pamper days planned for 2014.

Senior citizens from Delft, Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain were bussed in to Wynberg Park where they were treated to breakfast, lunch and a host of delicious tea treats. Amidst the greenery and natural beauty of the park, they participated in a day not many are likely to forget soon. So many of the elderly were simply happy to escape the day to day bleakness of the circumstances they live in for just a short while.

Mustadafin Foundation staff and volunteers entertained the elderly with games of dominoes and chess, song and dance while keeping them well fed and watered. To elevate the “pamper” factor, hand and foot massages were administered, and the experience of being loved, cared for and appreciated was shared by all who attended.

“I’m so grateful that I could just relax today. Now I go back to that noisy house full of kids! Do I have to?” moaned one granny as they boarded the bus home in the late afternoon.

“We want to let our seniors know that they have a place of value in our hearts and that their hard work and effort when they were younger are not forgotten. They are loved and cherished as much today as ever before,” said Ghairunisa Johnstone, Director of Mustadafin Foundation, “We also thank each and every volunteer who extended their time, energy and care to make this day a success. And to our many donors who ensured that the treats were abundant: Shukran, Thank you, Dankie, Nkosi Kakhulu!”
