Youth Development

"There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children."- Nelson Mandela

The areas of operation

Khayelitsha, Hanover Park, Vahallah Park, Tafelsig, Athlone, Delft South in the Western Cape Province, South Africa.

These areas have limited access to social and educational institutions and this challenge is built into the operations of the projects through: Mustadafin Foundation being the first organization that trains volunteers from the areas to provide demonstrations and educate youth, thus capacity building communities. Mustadafin Foundation is organization that focuses on out of school youth who have a lack of access to knowledge.

what we do

  • Kickboxing
  • Drumming
  • Drama
  • Karate
  • Reading
  • Tutoring
  • Arts and craft classes

These programs are run daily or at least once a week. Peer education forums and informal community gatherings are established. Students are trained and then become involved in facilitating such programmes, Ikamva Lakasi are one of those youth groups who have become strong and independent.

How we evaluate the programs

These programmes have proven to be effective in developing and nurturing leadership skills in the lives of young people. Our Youth launches an annual mass mobilization that empowers the youth to take ownership of their causes on Youth Day. Mustadafin’s logo symbolizes one hand upon the other in a circular giving position. So on June 16th, 400 youth are encouraged on this day to be the ‘top hand’ so that they will learn what it means to be leaders and agents of social change in their society. They implement projects like feeding schemes, placard demonstrations, pamphlet distribution, assisting the elderly, orphanages and frail care. These activities take place in Cape Flats and Townships with the assistance of seniors and volunteers.
